The business ran successfully until the outbreak of World War II when the site was requisitioned by the army and returned to commercial use at the end of hostilities. Built in the fashionable Art Deco style of the time, the original building was single storey, with the upper floor and extra workshop space being added as the business prospered. Philpotts Garage continued into the 1960's when the site became a petrol station - the canopy is still in place. Then in the 1980's, the site reverted back to sales and serving, operating as V-Wise - a German car specialist. Then finally as The German Car Centre before Pierremonts bought the site in 2006. Pierremonts was established in 1988 as a family-owned business in Broadstairs offering servicing, mot's, car and van hire and a selection of used cars for sale.
